A note on when websites actually do their work.
Every autumn the island exhales. The last charters leave, the sunbeds get stacked, and by November most hotel websites sit quietly behind closed shutters — waiting, like their owners, for spring.
Here's the quiet irony we've noticed after eleven years of building for the island: winter is exactly when those websites are busiest.
The couple arriving in July from London or New York didn't book in July. They booked in January, maybe February — flights first, room soon after. The version of your website they saw was the winter one. If it was showing last year's photos, or made booking feel like a chore, the decision was made long before you reopened.
The season doesn't start when you open. It starts when your guests start deciding.
That's why we think of October to March as the building season. It's the one window where a redesign can happen calmly — proper photography, honest copy, a booking flow you'd trust with your own credit card — and still have time to be tested and found by Google before the winter research wave. A site launched in December has months to settle in. A site launched in April arrives just as everyone's already looking.
None of this is a reason to panic if spring is your rhythm — we've built plenty of lovely sites in April, and we will again. It's just that the relaxed version of the same project, started in the quiet months, tends to come out better. More thought, less rush, and it's actually there when the bookings happen.
This blog is called Notes between seasons because that's genuinely when the work gets done. Summer is for keeping things running. Winter is for making them better.
So if there's a website project somewhere on your winter list — this is the season it was written for.
